Here’s the answer: discover what a real day in the Bordeaux vineyards looks like, hour by hour, just the way we love to create it for you!
Before you book: what can you actually expect?
First, one important thing to know: Bordeaux is not just one vineyard area. It is an entire wine region made up of very distinct appellations, including Saint-Émilion, the Médoc, Pomerol, Sauternes and Pessac-Léognan. Each has its own grape varieties, landscapes and unique personality.
That is why we always design our tours around one specific area per day. This way, you avoid spending a large part of your afternoon driving between distant villages.
The philosophy behind our tours is simple: one full day, one wine region and two to three estates. Most importantly, we make sure there is plenty of time to truly enjoy the experience!
And remember: every experience we create is bespoke. Everything can therefore be tailored to your preferences!
10:00 AM: Pick-Up at your hotel
Your day starts right where you are, rather than at a complicated meeting point on the other side of the city.
One of our private guides will pick you up directly from your hotel in Bordeaux, or elsewhere. A few minutes later, you’ll already be on your way to the vineyards.
After all, that is one of the great pleasures of a private tour compared with a large group excursion: no waiting around for forty other people before you can set off!
11:00 AM: Your first château visit
By late morning, it is time to explore your first wine estate, often a family-owned property where vines have been cultivated for several generations.
A visit generally lasts between one and two hours and usually includes:
- A walk through the vineyards, with friendly explanations about the soils, grape varieties and how the appellation influences the style of the wine.
- A visit to the vat room and wine cellar to discover how the wine is made and aged.
- A guided tasting of the estate’s wines.
This is often the moment when the Bordeaux wine region really starts to make sense. It is no longer simply a list of prestigious labels, but a landscape, a terroir and a savoir-faire that you can see, understand and, of course, taste for yourself!
12:30 PM: Lunch among the Vineyards
Depending on the experience you choose, several options are available.
For example, you may enjoy an elegant picnic made with seasonal, locally sourced products right at the wine estate. In some cases, you may even have the opportunity to share this special moment with the winemaker.
Prefer a more traditional lunch? Enjoy a meal on a terrace overlooking the vineyards or in a charming restaurant in a village such as Saint-Émilion.
Either way, the pace remains relaxed. After all, you’re in Bordeaux, and lunch deserves its own moment in the spotlight!
2:00-3:00 PM: Explore the village or visit a second estate
The afternoon will vary depending on the wine region you choose.
In Saint-Émilion, this is the perfect time to wander through the cobbled streets of this UNESCO World Heritage village. You can stop for photos overlooking the vineyards or step inside a local wine shop.
In the Médoc, the experience is quite different. You’ll drive past some of the world’s most famous châteaux and impressive wine estates. You may even recognize a few names from wine lists you have come across before.
Then, it’s time to head to your next tasting.
4:30 PM: A second wine tasting
Most of our full-day tours include visits to two or three wine estates.
We carefully select them to showcase different styles within the same wine region. It is a wonderful way to refine your palate and better understand the nuances of Bordeaux wines.
On some tours, we may replace one estate visit with a guided tasting at a wine cellar or wine shop in the heart of the village. This is an ideal opportunity to compare several wines side by side and better understand what makes each one unique.
6:00-6:30 PM: Return to your hotel
Finally, your guide will drive you back to your hotel, with fond memories of a glass of wine — or two, or three — still on your mind. Figuratively speaking, of course!
Most of our guests describe the experience as a full yet wonderfully relaxed day. It is not about ticking places off a list. Instead, it is about truly immersing yourself in the world of Bordeaux wine and understanding how it comes to life, from the soil all the way to your glass.
